Smriti Malhotra is originally from Delhi and she is the oldest of three sisters. Her mother is of Bengali origin and she is distantly related to the well-known actress Tripti Mishra. Later she married her childhood friend Zubin Irani. She has one son and one daughter called Zohr Irani and Zoish Irani. Now she is known as Smriti Malhotra-Irani. She shot to fame for her role in the famous Hindi soap opera, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. In 2003, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, who were quick to give her a ticket to fight the Lok Sabha elections from Delhi's Chandni Chowk constituency. Although she was defeated in these elections, this five times consecutive best actress award winner continued with the BJP while most of the other actors who had joined the party during that time deserted the party.
