About Subhash Ghai

Subhash Ghai graduated from the Film & Television Institute of India, Pune. In 1976 he received his directorial break was for the film Kalicharan which he obtained through a recommendation by Shatrughan Sinha.   This film went on to become one of the biggest hits of its time.His most notable films in the 1980s were Karz (1980), Vidhaata (1982), Hero (1983), Karma (1986) and Ram Lakhan (1989). In 1991 he went on to win the Filmfare Best Director Award for Saudagar.   In 1993 he directed Khalnayak, where the popular number Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai became fairly controversial.His later films like Pardes and Taal where well received by the NRI audience all over the world and they featured in Hollywood top twenty at box-office for various weeks.   Certain sections of the media have nicknamed him 'showman' or 'dream merchant' at various moments in
