Tulsi Tanti is the Chairman and Managing Director of Suzlon Energy. His company has proven expertise in wind power based plants. His family holds 70% stake in the company. He comes from Gujarat where he started his business first in textiles. After citing hurdles in textile business he then moved into wind energy production which gave rise to Suzlon Energy. Tulsi Tanti originally hails from Gujarat and is presently based in Pune. In 1990, Tulsi Tanti invested in two wind turbines. After 5 years he invented Suzlon and gradually quit textiles. Suzlon Energy is the largest wind turbine manufacturer in Asia. Suzlon recently acquired Hansen Transmissions, a Belgian maker of wind-turbine gearboxes. Earlier, it acquired Germany’s REPower. Suzlon is also engaged in manufacturing rotor-blades.
