In World War II, the USSR depended fully on the strength of Stalingrad. The Russians and Germans fought over every block in the city, leaving ruins behind. The Russian sniper Vassili Zaitsev (Jude Law) stalks the Germans, taking them out one by one, bringing down the morale of the German troops. Commisar Danilov (Joseph Fiennes) leads him on, making an issue every time Vassili succeeds, thus hoping to raise his countrymen's hopes. This goes on till Vassili realises that too much is expected of him. Then comes the German master sniper Major Konig (Ed Harris), sent especially to put an end to Vassili. Will he succeed?
