The film loosely follows the life story of the famous Bollywood playback singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. Mansi (Aruna Irani) is the elder daughter in the family. When the father passes away, Mansi begins to make money by taking up music professionally. Bansi (Shabana Azmi) is her younger sister and the film shows how she grows up to make her own way in the same profession.
