Seventeen year old Greta is at her wits end when her mother Karen gets married for the third time. She has previously seen her father commit suicide and is gradually withdrawing into a shell and turning rebellious. When she is sent to live with her grandparents, she decides finally to kill herself. Then, unexpectedly, she falls in love with the cook at a local restaurant. But her grandparents are not happy with the developments when they find out that the cook has a police record. Unable to bear the torture from all ends, Greta takes another attempt at committing suicide by taking a boating trip, but things don't go according to plan. Something happens that changes everyone's life forever.
