Mili (Urmila Matondkar) is from a poor family but has grand dreams of making it big in Bollywood. Munna (Aamir Khan) is her best friend and he encourages her to pursue her dreams. Mili begins as a dancer in a group and awaits her opportunity. She also idolises Kamal (Jackie Shroff), the biggest hero of Hindi films. She watches all of Kamal's films along with Munna who sells tickets in black. Mili gets too excited when she catches the eye of her silver screen idol. Kamal recommends her to director Steven Kapoor (Gulshan Grover) and after a screen test Mili gets the chance to play the female lead in the movie Rangeela against Kamal. In between shoots, Mili gets to know Kamal quite well. He's lonely and finds Mili's freshness very attractive and falls in love with her. In the meanwhile, Munna wants to tell Mili about his love for her and that he wants to marry her. But with success dogging her footsteps, Munna's childhood friend Mili, suddenly seems quite out of reach. Heartbroken Munna is still unable to give up on his love for her. Will Mili realise that there is someone out there who's pining for her love?
