Jeetu (Shahid Kapur) has fallen into heavy debt. He gets frustrated by the constant harassment of the money lenders and his inability to pay them back. Hoping that after his death his family could fall back on the compensation offered by the insurance company, he commits suicide. He is saved by two fishermen, Gundya (Paresh Rawal) and Bandya (Rajpal Yadav). He decides to gain their sympathy by pretending to be both deaf and dumb. However, instead of living with them in Kolkata, Jeetu is given to Prabhat Singh (Om Puri) as mortgage for Gundya's boats. While working as a servant in Singh's house, he meets Prabhat Singh's beautiful daughter Meenakshi (Neha Dhupia), and his niece, Shruti (Kareena Kapoor) who takes Jeetu as deaf and dumb like her. After some time they both fall in love with each other. But what will happen when Jeetu's truth is revealed?
