Ulrich Borowka (born May 19, 1962 in Menden) is a former German footballer, in the defender position. A versatile blue-collar worker with a hard shot, his footballing ability was notoriously limited. In the Bundesliga, Borowka played for Borussia Mönchengladbach (1981-1987) and SV Werder Bremen (1987-1996), amassing 388 league games (19 goals). He became league champion with Werder Bremen in 1988 and 1993, and won the German Cup in 1991 and 1994. He finished his career with Tasmania 1900 Berlin (1996), Hannover 96 (1996-97), Widzew Łódź (1997, becoming the first German to play in the Polish league) and FC Oberneuland (1998). Borowka earned six caps for West Germany in 1988, and featured for the nation at Euro 1988. Borowka had problems with alcoholism later in his career, and was prone to domestic violence against his wife. He managed to overcome these problems, however.
