The Spice Girls were spotted this week as they came together to launch Viva Forever, a musical that will feature their greatest hits. We couldn't help marvelling at how different the girls looked from when they had first caught the world's attention way back in 1997. Take a walk down memory lane with us...
Here's a picture of them from 1997. The members Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham had all assumed identities like Scary, Sporty, Ginger, Baby and Posh Spice respectively
Then: The leader of the pack was Ginger Spice, Geri Halliwell. She was the first member to leave the group in 1998, citing depression
Now: Following her departure, Halliwell has carved a moderately successful solo career for herself with hit singles like 'It's Raining Men'. She also launched a clothing range and has been roped in as a judge on the latest season of UK's 'The X Factor'
Then: The youngest member of the group, Emma was christened 'Baby Spice'. She was the 'girly' one, often spotted in pigtails and frilly frocks
Now: Like Geri, Emma too embarked upon a solo career after the band broke up. She's since made several television appearances on British shows
Then: Mel C, or Sporty Spice, was the group's tomboy. At the same time that Geri left the group, Mel C had also begun to branch out and had successfully collaborated with rocker Bryan Adams for the single 'Baby When You're Gone'
Now: Melanie has had quite a successful career post the Spice Girls. She is the only female to reach UK Official Singles Chart at number one as a part of quartet, quintet, duo and solo. She is currently working on her sixth studio album called 'Stages'
Then: The group's other Melanie - Mel B - was Scary Spice. Everything about her, from her voice to her hair, was loud and in your face.
Now: Melanie Brown also pursued a solo career and even released a single with Missy Elliot. She's been a judge on the talent The X Factor
Then: Victoria Adams, as she was known as before her marriage to football superstar David Beckham, was Posh Spice. She sported a bob and was the member with a fondness for all thing fancy-pants
Now: Post her marriage, Posh's brand value went through the roof. She's had a solo music career that didn't quite take off, but remained a firm fixation in the gossip pages of British tabloids. She's now launched a hugely popular clothing line and is the the proud mamma of four kids
