Outaraged by the British decision to use Indian troops to fight in the World War II, Gandhiji declared 'Quit India' movement in 1942, demanding the countrymen to disregard orders from the British adminstration. The move forced the foreign rulers to initiate dialogues, which ultimately led to India's independence.
