Factional fight in the CPI(M)'s Kerala unit flared up yet again on Sunday with the Leader of the Opposition VS Achuthanandan threatening to quit. In a letter addressed to party supremo Prakash Karat, Achuthanandan asked for a leadership change in the state. He also asserted that "criminalisation of politics" could not be accepted.
The move came against the backdrop of a long-drawn rivalry between Achuthanandan and the State Secretary, Pinarayi Vijayan. The murder of CPI(M) dissident TP Chandrasekharan earlier this month had accentuated divisions in the party. Watch more on this story.
