Vitālijs Astafjevs (Russian: Виталий Астафьев) (born April 3, 1971 in Riga) is a football midfielder from Latvia. As of April 2009 he has played 152 international matches and scored 15 goals[1] for the Latvia national team. He debuted in 1992 when the national team was established, and played at the Euro 2004. He started his career in FC Skonto, and has since played for Austria Vienna, Bristol Rovers F.C., where he is remembered as a cult hero for his impressive displays in a struggling team, Admira Wacker, Rubin Kazan and after that returned to FC Skonto. He is one of the most capped active players at the moment. On April 1, 2009 Vitālijs made his 152th cap for Latvia, making him second most capped European footballer and just four caps short of Martin Reim\s record.
