Zanjeer (Devanagari: ज़ंजीर, Arabic: زنجیر, translated as \"Shackles\"), is a 1973 film from India starring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan (his real-life wife), Pran and Ajit. The movie changed the trend from romantic films to action films and pioneered Amitabhs new image of a brooding but explosive person who fights back when cornered. He was now known as \"The Angry Young Man.\" The film became a \"superhit\" at the box office. Originally, Dev Anand was considered for the lead, until Jaya went to him and begged him to give the lead to Amitabh due to some financial troubles he was facing.[1] It collected over Rs. 5 crores (Rs. 50 million) at the box office[2]
