STR’s recent release Vandha Rajavadhan Varuven (VRV) has failed to woo viewers. This family drama directed by Sundar C has grossed just about 10 CR in its opening week in TN, and its show count and screen count for the 2nd week have taken a big dip. The film will mostly wrap its run on February 13th, as Dev is expected to have a wide release on Feb 14th. STR’s next film, Maanaadu, will be with director Venkat Prabhu who has this strange (obviously unplanned) sequence of working with stars who come to him after having delivered a flop.
Ajith did Mankatha with Venkat Prabhu in 2011 after his previous film Asal bombed at the box office in 2010. In the same way, Karthi’s Biriyani with VP in 2013 was after utterly forgettable outings in the form of Alex Pandian and All in All Azhagu Raja earlier in the year. Suriya did Maasu with VP in 2015 after his previous film Anjaan failed at the box office in 2014. Now, STR will be reporting on VP’s sets after the underwhelming VRV. We hope the director can bring STR back on the winning track.
Venkat Prabhu and his fans are waiting for the release of his next film, Party, this summer. Party is a huge multi-starrer entertainer shot in exotic Fiji.
