Mani Ratnam’s 1991 release ‘Thalapathy’ is considered as one of the greatest Tamil cinemas of all time. However, the movie will be remembered forever because of another special reason. ‘Thalapathy’ brought together, for the first time ever, two of the Southern cinema legends — Rajinikanth and Mammootty. Now, nearly after 26 years later, these two legends are all set to work together again.
According to the Mumbai Mirror, the two actors will work together in the upcoming Marathi film Pasaayadan, which will be directed by debutant Deepak Bhave. The film is expected to go on the floors in February 2018. The film is expected to go on the floors in February 2018. Pasaayadan is being produced by politician Balkrishna Surve and apparently, he was the one to convince Rajinikanth to come on board.
Bhave had earlier worked as a co-writer on the Marathi film Idak (helmed by Deepak Gawade) which premiered at the 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) this year in Goa.
Interestingly, Mammootty had once said that he wanted to cast Rajini in his directorial venture ‘Bhoothakkannadi’, however, the project never saw the light of day. “Yes, it is true that I wanted to direct Rajinikanth in Bhoothakkannadi and I even narrated the story to him. But, the project never materialised. And I also didn’t want to pressure him into doing the film,” Mammootty had said.
Both Rajinikanth and Mammootty command immense fan following in south India. In fact, when Thalapathy released, the makers had to shoot different climaxes to comply with the sentiments of the fans of these two actors.
Rajinikanth is currently busy with Shankar’s sci-fi thriller ‘2.0’ and Pa Ranjith’s crime-drama ‘Kaala‘. Mammootty, on the other hand, will next be seen in ‘Masterpiece’. Besides this, he also has ‘Streetlights’, ‘Bilal’ and ‘Peranbu’ in his kitty.
