After Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn to 'Raid' Chinese territory
Hindi and Chini may not be quite the bhai, bhai but Bollywood's bhais (Salman, SRK and Aamir Khan) have been conquering the Chinese box office for a while now. Akshay Kumar too released his films there and almost all of these films have done decently with the Chinese people. Adding to this star power is Ajay Devgn who has decided to jump into the market with his portrayal of an honest Income Tax collector in Raid (March, 2018) and this only be good news for the cinema-loving people of China.
According to reports, Ajay Devgn’s last release Raid which did very good business at the box-office. The film made over 98 crore at the box office with great reviews from the critics as well. In an interview recently, T-Series' head honcho, Bhushan Kumar confirmed the news and said that while they are in touch with the Chinese government for the film’s release, the Chinese distributors are showing a keen interest in showcasing the film as well.
This is great news for Devgn considering the revenue that can be generated by showcasing the film to a different audience altogether. Indian films have done great business in the territory in the past. While Salman’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan made a whopping Rs. 295.32 crore in 2017, Aamir Khan’s Dangal too was loved so much in the neighboring country that it became one of the most successful films of recent times minting $189 Million in May 2017.
In November this year, the Raj Kumar Gupta directed film was showcased in the Chinese Film Festival and Devgn won the award in the Best Foreign Actor category. The movie might release I the first half of 2019.
Talking about last few releases in China, Akshay Kumar’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar, and Rani Mukerji’s Hichki were also well received by the Chinese audience. Let's hope Devgn impresses the people there as well.
