Bollywood box office stealer, Akshay Kumar has long been cashing in on public holiday weekends with annual superhits like Toilet Ek Prem Katha (2017) and Rustom (2016). Next year 2018, he intends to do the same but there seems to be an impending clash. Two of his awaited films, 2.0 and Padman are slated to be released one day after another, on 25th and 26th January respectively. The clash barely seems wise since Padman will be against Rajnikanth’s mega budget film, 2.0.
Akki, nonetheless wiser knows best, “There is a lot of false information that is being circulated over both films releasing on the same day. Why would I clash with my own film? It will be either Padman or 2.0.” The actor cleared the air in an interview with Mid-day.
The collision comes after Akshay pre-poned his home production, Padman’s release date from April 13 to January 26. While it is unclear why he would put up the two films against each other, there are speculations over 2.0 meeting its release date in January due to chunks of special effects remaining incomplete in the Shankar directed film.
Not choosing to cross swords, Akshay maintained a diplomatic front, “While Padman is a film that I have produced, 2.0 belongs to Shankar, Rajinikanth and Lyca Productions. They will decide whether they want to release the film on Republic Day. If they do, I will postpone Padman and if they don't, I will go ahead."Akshay seems to be betting on 2.0’s completion, his advanced booking for Padman leaves him in a win-win position if 2.0 misses its deadline but he seems definite to push dates if 2.0 sticks to its deadline. Either way, Akshay will be ruling box office on Republic Day weekend. "I am certainly having a release on Republic Day because if I don't do it, there are many others who are waiting in line. So I might as well take advantage,” quoted Mid-day.
