The Andhra Pradesh State Film Development Corporation has announced the winners of the Nandi Awards for 2014-2016. A list of award-winners was shared with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu by a delegation from the industry which was led by APFDC chairman Ambica Krishna and Nandamuri Balakrishna. Jury Members Mr Giribabu, Ms Jeevitha and Mr Pokuri Baburao explained to him the process of selection and finalization of awardees.
Named after ‘Nandi’, the big granite bull at Lepakshi, a cultural and historical symbol of the Telugu people, this is the highest award ceremony for excellence in Telugu cinema, theatre, television, and lifetime achievements in Indian cinema, presented annually by the government of Andhra Pradesh. Nandi Awards are presented in four categories: Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Copper. A variant, the Nandi ‘Natakotsavam Awards for Theater’, is also given every year by the government for social, mythological and poetic dramas. The state government had not announced the awards since 2014 due to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘Baahubali: The Beginning of 2015’ mightily owned the prestigious Nandi Awards 2017. The Prabhas and Anushka Shetty starrer won 13 awards in multiple categories. However, Prabhas, the Baahubali himself didn’t take home any laurel. The movie won in several categories such as the Best Film, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress, Best Villain, Best Cinematographer, Best Playback Singer (male), Best Music, Best Choreographer, Best Fight Master, Best Dubbing, and Best Special Effects Awards.
