If you're looking for your next documentary fix after Netflix's sensational documentary, Fyre, we've got just the nugget for you. In the wee hours of a regular night in 1993, Lorena Bobbitt had just had about enough of her husband, John Bobbitt's ‘sexual and emotional abuse’. Lorena, after being brutally raped by her husband, went ahead and chopped off his penis as retribution for the years of emotional and physical distress he had caused her. This case becomes one of the most widely reported cases across the globe. The 24-hour news cycle consumed it completely and it became a media spectacle and a tabloid-favourite. A battle of the sexes commenced as Lorena was rallied by feminist groups while also becoming a joke by the male-dominated press of the time. This couple is now a subject of a docuseries - Lorena - and is exclusively available on Amazon Prime.
Lorena, Amazon Prime's four-part docuseries revisits the events of this scandal and sheds new light on it. Released on 15th February 2019, the docuseries boasts Lorena's presence after a long absence from the media glare. It also aims to present a parallel narrative from both, Lorena and John, that really makes us question if whatever happened that night was a result of the longstanding abusive nature of John. Or was it temporary insanity on Lorena's end. This one, we'll have to watch to find out.
