Aquaman dethrones Batman vs Superman at the US box office
Jason Momoa starring Aquaman, which hit the theaters in December 2018, was is one of the biggest films of the year. The film has done wonders at the box-office, something only a few expected, apart from getting critical and commercial success at the box-office, the film also managed to break few records and has become one of the 20 highest-grossing movies of all time. Aquaman recently surpassed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s domestic collection and is now ahead of it.
Running into the ninth week of its release, the film recently broke the record and with it, this was Wan’s second $1 billion movie after Furious 7 back in 2015. The James Wan directorial Aquaman has made $331.37 million till date at the US box-office whereas, Batman v Superman ended its theatrical run at $330.36 million. Reportedly, Aquaman now stands at $1.13 billion in worldwide collections, of which almost $800 million is overseas earnings. Interestingly, it was in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that Jason Momoa’s Aquaman character was introduced in a cameo and the rest, as they say, is history.

Talking about Aquaman, the film is based on Arthur Curry/Aquaman who is half-human and half-Atlantean. Arthur is dragged into the war between the underwater kingdoms and the surface world, due to the latter polluting the oceans for centuries. The film also stars Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson in lead roles.
