S Shankar’s mega-budget sci-fi thriller 2.0 is all set to amaze you and the makers are set to host a spectacular audio launch tomorrow evening in Burj Park, Dubai. On the occasion, the makers of 2.0 called a star-studded press conference for the film in Burj Al Arab, Dubai which featured the film's cast and crew including Superstar Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar, director Shankar, AR Rahman and Amy Jackson. Subaskaran Allirajah, chairman of Lyca Productions, also graced the occasion. With Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar in the audience, AR Rahman's is expected to deliver a live performance at the music launch tomorrow. Rahman will reportedly entertain a 12,000 strong crowd with the 20-minute set of his songs from 2.0 along with a 125-member symphony orchestra. The latest we hear is that Kamal Haasan, who will star in Indian 2, the sequel to Shankar’s 1996 blockbuster Indian, is likely to grace the event as well.
According to media reports, the budget of this star-studded audio launch itself is believed to be not less than Rs 15 crore and almost Rs 2 crore has been dished out to set up giant LED screens at some of the famous shopping malls in Dubai. United Arab Emirates Prime Minister Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has been sent an invitation to honour the music launch as the chief guest. There will be a live telecast of the audio launch and around 1.5 lakh people will get the chance to witness the grand event which will also feature national award-winning choreographer Bosco Martis and his troupe of 50 dancers.
Rajinikanth was as usual the Thalaivar of the event. He answered only a handful of questions during the interaction but proudly said that 2.0 is going to be India's most prestigious film. Asked about his down-to-earth off-screen persona, the humble and modest superstar said, "I don't want to act off-screen because no one is paying me off-screen." The members present there at the press meet appreciated his simplicity with a loud cheer. Incidentally Bollywood's Mr Perfectionist recently revealed that initially he was approached by the filmmakers to play the role of Vaseegaran and Chitti. Even Rajinikanth himself tried convincing him to accept the offer. However, Aamir Khan said that he couldn't see himself in the characters played by Rajinikanth in 2010 blockbuster Enthiran.
Putting an end to all the rumours, the film’s director Shankar said in the press conference that 2.0, made on a budget of more than Rs 400 crore, is not an extension of Enthiran. He also said he waited for almost a year to arrive at the core plot. "It's entirely new, but we have all the familiar characters from Enthiran. Although we have made in Hollywood format, 2.0 is not a copy of any Hollywood movie," he said.
Asked why Arnold Schwarzenegger turned down the offer to play the villain role, Shankar explained, "We approached Arnold, and we had extensive negotiations with his team. But, things didn't materialise as we expected and there were some difficulties in signing the contract."
Akshay Kumar, who plays the role of Dr. Richard in the film, said that playing an anti-hero was a very different experience for him. "Shankar's not a director but a scientist. It's unbelievable what he wants to say through his movie," said Mr Khiladi Kumar.
Akshay Kumar raved about his co-star superstar Rajinikanth, with whom he is sharing the screen space for the first time. When asked about his working experience, he said, "I've learned many things from Rajini sir. The kind of commitment he has for his movies is unbelievable. I've heard many enlightening short stories from him on sets. He's such a down-to-earth person. Even after achieving so much of superstardom, nothing has ever crossed his head. He is always the same lovely human being."
Akshay Kumar, Amy Jackson and AR Rahman expressed their excitement over the film to social media as well.
2.0 also stars the National Award winning ‘Maj Rati Keteki’ actor Adil Hussain and is slated to release on Republic Day, 2018.
