One of the most anticipated films of 2018 is not only a Rajnikath starrer but also includes Akshay Kumar with a whole new look. Kumar, who usually plays comical or heroic roles will now double up as a negative character and will reportedly put up a tough competition to Thalaivar. Given that it's likely to be a a game-changer, it's naive to think the budget would be any less than record-breaking. Reports suggests the production costs for ‘2.0’ has slowly crept upwards to a whopping Rs 450 crore making it the most expensive Indian film ever to be made.
If that doesn’t throw you off balance then dig this: the mentioned Rs 450 crore is not inclusive of promotions and marketing costs. Just two days ago, the filmmakers dumped Rs 15 crores on a music launch in Dubai.
Previously, this record was held by ‘Bahubali’, shot over a period of five years and amounting to a total of Rs 430 crores. But ‘Bahubali’ had a unique craze and fan following. It was released in two parts to ease the inflow of money and recover the budget. Both ‘Bahubali’ films were treated as two different films but they were made in the same stretch. The makers of ‘2.0’ will have a hard task in recovering the money. Since ‘Bahubali’ was released in two parts and with a gap of two years, it managed to retain the hype and excitement, thus making it easy to recover production costs and break records. The first edition collected Rs 650 crores while ‘Bahubali 2’ gathered Rs 2,000 crores. The makers of ‘2.0’ will have to work really hard to get past that benchmark. But ‘2.0’ has something that ‘Bahubali’ didn’t – Rajni, and we all know the type of crowd puller Thalaivar can be.
