3 years of Neerja: Sonam Kapoor reminisces the time she met Neerja Bhanot's mother for the first time
Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor stepped into the film world with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya. Although she did make her mark in the industry with the series of films that followed later, it was her spectacular performance in Neerja that made her stand out. The biographical thriller chronicled the brave story of late air-hostess Neerja Bhanot and was brought to us by director Ram Madhavan. On Tuesday, the film clocked in 3 years and Sonam marked the day with a special post on social media.
The Veere Di Wedding actor took a trip down the memory lane and shared her experience of meeting Neerja’s mother Rama Bhanot for the first time. As part of her post, she also shared a video which sees her meeting Rama and some behind-the-scenes footage which feature her prepping for her shots. Reminiscing how Rama reacted on meeting her for the first time, she shares, "The first thing Rama aunty said was ye to meri laado hai." She went on to add that Rama’s reaction made her realise that she couldn’t let her down. She captioned the post calling it an ‘overwhelming’ experience to do such a film that follows ‘the true story of heroism and love’.

When you do a movie that is based on such reality and pain and follows the true story of heroism and love, it’s truly overwhelming. Three years later I am honoured to convey this inspirational story. #3YearsOfNeerja @atulkasbekar #ShabanaAzmi #RamMadhvani @jimsarbhforreal @shekharravjiani #Saiwyn #BlingGlobal @foxstarhindi @sayunkytha
The film showed us Neerja’s heroic attempt to save her passengers when her flight was hijacked in Pakistan on September 5, 1986. It received several awards and accolades, including two National Film Awards and six Filmfare Awards.
