Abhishek Bachchan’s Twitter account was hacked; actor regains control
Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan’s twitter account was hacked and the attackers were retweeting Turkish propaganda. The account's cover image was updated and it reflected the same image as the accounts of others who were hacked recently. Just yesterday Twitter accounts of several prominent people were hacked including National Award winning actor and FTII chairman Anupam Kher, senior BJP leader Ram Madhav, and Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta.
The blue tick, which signifies a verified account, is missing from the hacked handles. Twitter had temporarily taken down the accounts. The hacker was retweeting screenshots of the hacked accounts from Abhishek’s handle. The attackers are likely to be Pro-Pakistani Turkish groups as is evident from their retweets and the image of the ‘Turkish cyber army.’
According to the victims, the direct messages were sent from their accounts to several users. In the case of Anupam Kher, the actor reportedly received a link from Rajya Sabha MP Swapan, which was a first from him. Upon clicking it, the account was compromised.
Earlier this year, two images of Pakistan's flag and Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain were uploaded from the Twitter handle of India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Syed Akbaruddin. It turned out his account too was hacked. The account was restored with the verification tick and the objectionable tweets were removed.
Abhishek's account has been restored to him and the blue tick is back. The actor tweeted out to his fans and thanked them for keeping an eye out. He appears to be bit 'chuffed' about being the victim though!
