Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan’s twitter account was hacked and the attackers were retweeting Turkish propaganda. The account's cover image was updated and it reflected the same image as the accounts of others who were hacked recently. Just yesterday Twitter accounts of several prominent people were hacked including National Award winning actor and FTII chairman Anupam Kher, senior BJP leader Ram Madhav, and Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta.
Hindistan Ulusal Drama Okulu başkanlığını da yapmış olan, oyuncu ve yazar @AnupamPkher tarafımızca hacklenmiştir. DM yazışmaları ve bazı bilgileri ele geçirilmiştir. The actor and writer @AnupamPkher is hacked by me. DM correspondence and some information have been seized.🇹🇷 pic.twitter.com/6IjY8WlwTU— Ayyıldız Tim (@Ayyildiz_Tim130) February 6, 2018
The blue tick, which signifies a verified account, is missing from the hacked handles. Twitter had temporarily taken down the accounts. The hacker was retweeting screenshots of the hacked accounts from Abhishek’s handle. The attackers are likely to be Pro-Pakistani Turkish groups as is evident from their retweets and the image of the ‘Turkish cyber army.’
Gazeteci, siyasetçi, eski editör ve film yapımcısı @PritishNandy tarafımızca hacklenmiş, verileri ele geçirilmiştir. To every one on twitter: please don’t open any link sent on your direct messages, however genuine they appear. That is the tool hackers are using to hack into your account. Please share this message with as many people as you can. Thanks. 🙏— Anupam Kher (@AnupamPKher) February 6, 2018
According to the victims, the direct messages were sent from their accounts to several users. In the case of Anupam Kher, the actor reportedly received a link from Rajya Sabha MP Swapan, which was a first from him. Upon clicking it, the account was compromised.
I AM BACK.😎. Thank you @TwitterIndia for your fantastic and efficient handling of my twitter account getting hacked. Thank you friends & members of the media for alerting me in Los Angles in the middle of the night. As for hackers : I LOVE INDIA. भारत माता की जय।🇮🇳🇮🇳 pic.twitter.com/qGtMRLLSKo— Anupam Kher (@AnupamPKher) February 6, 2018
Earlier this year, two images of Pakistan's flag and Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain were uploaded from the Twitter handle of India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Syed Akbaruddin. It turned out his account too was hacked. The account was restored with the verification tick and the objectionable tweets were removed.
Abhishek's account has been restored to him and the blue tick is back. The actor tweeted out to his fans and thanked them for keeping an eye out. He appears to be bit 'chuffed' about being the victim though!
Yes, yes my account got hacked. Quite chuffed that they thought me interesting enough actually 😉. All sorted out now and back to normal. Well.... As normal as it can get. 😁— Abhishek Bachchan (@juniorbachchan) February 7, 2018
Thank you for your concern.
