Earlier this year, Karan Johar and Salman Khan announced that they will come together to co-produce a movie on the Battle of Saragarhi which will star Akshay Kumar in the lead. Fans rejoiced on the good news. Now, the team has made another announced. Karan Johar and Akshay Kumar took to Twitter to announce: "Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar proudly present 'Kesari' based on one of the bravest battles fought in India 'The Battle of Saragarhi' Directed by Anurag Singh and starring Akshay Kumar Releasing Holi 2019."
But, Salman Khan seems to be missing from the announcement. Earlier, Akshay Kumar was only going to be the lead of the movie, but it seems that he might co-produce it as well.
An excited Akshay tweeted saying, "A film I'm extremely excited about personally and emotionally... #Kesari releasing Holi 2019."
While Karan’s production house Dharma tweeted, "Thrilled to announce the coming together of @karanjohar & @akshaykumar! #KesariHoli2019, directed by #AnuragSingh. @apoorvamehta18"
History repeats itself. Quite literally, the story of The Battle of Saragarhi will be the subject of three different movies, slated to release close to each other. Kesari will release on Holi 2019. It will compete against Ajay Devgn’s Son Of Sardaar: The Battle Of Saragarhi and director Rajkumar Santoshi’s The Battle Of Saragarhi starring Randeep Hooda.
The Battle Of Saragarhi was fought between Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army and Pashtun Orakzai tribesmen on 12 September 1897. The British Indian army was attacked by approximately 10,000 Afghans. There were only 21 Sikhs in the battle. The Sikh regiment chose to fight to the death to save their post. Akshay Kumar will be seen essaying the role of Havildar Ishar Singh, the military commander of the 36th Sikhs Regiment. To this day, the event is celebrated by Sikhs as Saragarhi day.
