Akshay Kumar had a successful streak at the box office with Toilet Ek Prem Katha and Jolly LLB 2 this year, spiraling the star on a biopic spree for next year with upcoming Padman and Reema Kagti's Gold. But Mogul, based on the life and times of T-Series founder Gulshan Kumar will not be one of them. The actor has reportedly dropped out of the film following differences with its director Subhash Kapoor.
A report by Mid-day suggests that the star dropped out of the project after his suggestions for alterations to the story was ignored by the director. "Akshay has some concerns over the script that director Subhash Kapoor has greenlit. He requested that a few things be rewritten. But, Subhash was adamant," Mid-day quoted a source as saying. Akshay’s record of over 100 crore turn out seems to have given the star a creative liberty despite having sentimental attachments to a project.
Earlier in the year, the star had tweeted a poster of Mogul to show his excitement for the project and that it meant more than just another project, for his first film was produced by Bollywood production giant, T-Series.

Earlier in the year, Gulshan Kumar’s daughter, Tulsi Kumar had publicly stated that Akshay was the perfect choice to play her father. "There are a lot of similarities between Akshay and my father. Akshay is a Punjabi and so are we. He is Delhi-based and my dad was also from Delhi. I think he would be able to pull off the character."
While there is yet to be official confirmation from Akshay’s side for dropping out of the project, the film has been deferred for now as it was slated to release next year.
