Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is back with yet another dark and gritty film after Raman Raghav 2.0. The trailer of Kashyap's much-anticipated film ‘Mukkabaaz’ is out and like every other Kashyap film, this one too offers grey shades of humanity. The sports drama which revolves around boxing features Vineet Kumar Singh, Zoya Hussain, Jimmy Sheirgill and Ravi Kishan in pivotal roles.
The 3-minute-long trailer showcases impeccable casting and impressive dialogues. Shravan is a low caste boxer in Uttar Pradesh, who trains at a gym owned by an upper caste don Das Mishra. Things take an ugly turn when Shravan falls in love with Mishra's niece Sunaina. As you may have guessed, furious Das doesn't approve of this relationship. The central plot point revolves around Shravan's struggles to become an unbeatable boxer and woo Das' family.
"We have more sports movies than medals. The film comes from that sad situation. In population, we are second after China, but in the medal tally, we always lag behind. Why is it happening, why can't we produce sportsmen? There is a problem in our sports system. Through this film and through a love story we are trying to explore that. It's a very pro-sports film. I call it the most pro-sports film," Kashyap told reporters at the trailer launch of the film.
He further added that "We get a little something and burst into celebrations. We go crazy, don't understand what's happening. A small medal is celebrated so much that the person who won that doesn't even qualify the next time. The film comes from that irony."‘Mukkabaaz’ had its premiere at MAMI recently, where it received praise. The film, being jointly produced by Aanand L Rai and Kashyap's Phantom Films, is slated for a January 12 release.
