The teaser of Cheat India failed to make a connection with the audience with the movie looking outdated and Emraan Hashmi failing to impress. But the trailer seems to be changing that. It takes us back to the headlines we read in the newspapers a few years ago about cheating that took place during an engineering entrance exam. One where a smart student who had already passed the exams sat in for the papers on someone else’s name. The real-life incident took place before demonetisation in 2016 and the makers have set their movie too in a pre-demo era. The old 500 notes add to the nostalgia.
Though the concept of the film sounds like a classy multiplex movie, the trailer gives us a hint that the film has been made keeping in mind Hashmi’s fan following, the masses. It has some powerful dialogues and Emraan has mouthed them with confidence. The actor is surely on a roll with a role that will give him scope to show his acting prowess. Model Shreya Dhanwanthary will make her Bollywood debut with Cheat India, but she has zero screen-time in the trailer.
Cheat India is slated to release on January 25, 2019, clashing with Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Hrithik Roshan’s Super 30. With this trailer, it's safe to say that the masses will root for the Emraan’s film, Kangana and Hrithik need to up their game.
