The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir, Dhanush’s Hollywood debut has garnered a lot of attention. Variety has published the first look of the film and going by the looks of it, Dhanush looks nothing like a ‘fakir’. Dhanush can be seen sporting a slick blue suit and in conversation with French actor Berenice Bejo. The film also stars Barkhad Abdi of Captain Phillips fame, Erin Moriarty of Blood Father and Abel Jafri of Timbuktu. The film has been shot across India, Brussels and Paris and Rome.

The film is based on a novel titled, ‘The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe’ penned by Romain Puértolas. The book was published in 2014 and has been translated to 35 languages so far. The plot revolves around an Indian boy who embarks on a journey in search of his father. Dhanush portrays the role of a street magician called Ajatashatru in the film.
"Irrespective of the industry I work in, I’m constantly learning from the people I work with. If Bollywood taught me a lot about production, Hollywood has been a revelation in terms of understanding filmmaking better," Dhanush told IANS last month.
Ken Scott who is directing this project shared his experience of working with Dhanush in an interview with Variety. He said, “What’s great is I get to work with a great actor, Dhanush, who is a huge star in India, he’s a great actor, but also a great dancer, a great singer, he has a very unique way of dancing and moving, he’s just very charming,”Dhanush was last seen in Velai Illa Pattathari 2 (shortened to VIP 2). The film also starred Kajol and Amala Paul.
