Aditya Chopra is known to keep an eagle eye on his protégés and the actors he launches, even if it’s someone else’s production. He is known to pull stars up if he feels they've done something that goes against their image. It has come to our knowledge that the reclusive filmmaker recently called up Ranveer Singh after he saw the Simmba trailer and gave him an earful. Buzz is, he even expressed his displeasure to his good friend and Simmba producer, Karan Johar, as he felt he too should have taken more care of Ranveer in the trailer.
According to a trade source, “When the Simmba trailer released last week everyone was happy and felt it was going to be a blockbuster – everyone except Aditya Chopra. He had seen it online post the release and immediately called up Ranveer while he was at the trailer launch and fired him for not taking care of how he looked in the trailer. Ranveer is not only counted as one of the top stars today, he also has a huge fan following and image which makes him hot among brands. Adi was shocked how Ajay Devgn was given prominence in the trailer and Ranveer looked like the second lead. It appeared that the climax was given away with Ranveer being rescued by Ajay when in reality the senior actor only has a special appearance. It is Ranveer’s film (with him playing the title role) but the trailer, for Adi, was disappointing. Apparently, Adi felt Ranveer looked like a junior artiste and not a hero compared to the intensity of Ajay’s presence on screen and said that the actor should have made sure that Ajay was not shown in the trailer at all.”
At the end of Adi’s firing, a visibly upset Ranveer as he couldn’t offer much in explanations to his mentor. Ranveer knew Adi was right and quietly went back to the launch. The source adds, “Adi never likes to interfere in other productions but one has heard that now he wants to watch Simmba before its release to see whether Ranveer's role befits his image and top ranking as a star. He feels that the movie’s director Rohit Shetty should have been more careful of Ranveer’s appearance considering that they are working together for the first time. Everyone knows that Rohit and Ajay are good friends and if Ajay is doing a cameo, it will be a powerful one for maximum impact. But in the Simmba trailer, the actor walked away with the full honours and that’s what irked Adi who is known to speak his mind to people close to him.”
Simmba is an adaptation of the Telugu movie Temper (2015) and stars Ranveer Singh, Sara Ali Khan and Sonu Sood, with Ajay Devgn reprising his role of Bajirao Singham. Ranveer plays a corrupt police officer, Sangram (Simmba) Bhalerao, who transforms into an honest one due to certain situations and twists and turns.
