When trailer of Fakir Of Venice found its way online recently many wondered if this was a movie that filmmaker-turned-actor Farhan Akhtar had worked in recently. This Indie film looked slightly dated and Farhan looked different. Well, the movie was supposed to be Akhtar Jr’s acting debut. That’s right, Annu Kapoor and Farhan starrer Anand Surapur’s movie was originally slated to released in 2008. This movie was also supposed to be the Luck By Chance hero’s launchpad. However, fate had different plans and Fakir Of Venice went into the backburner and Farhan debuted in films with Rock On.
Unfortunately, Anand light-hearted con movie did not have a smooth ride even after a decade long delay. Apparently, the makers were hoping to release FOV last year, however Rohit Shetty’s Simmba starring Ranveer Singh pushed the movie further ahead. The makers made things more official and added the January 18, 2019 release date in the trailers that they recently launched. But the movie still failed to hit the mark and got pushed further ahead thanks to Vicky Kaushal’s Uri. While the decision to push the movie ahead was wise in both these cases, there seems to be little/no buzz about it.
Producer Punit Desai in a recent interview did talk about a January release, but the movie will not be out on February 1 alongside Sonam Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. Desai when asked about promotions of this movie had said that they would be targeting at an online campaign. Farhan does not seem very thrilled about this movie, but the producers are not worried about the movie looking dated as they feel that in these ten years the actor has not changed much. Fakir Of Venice producers claimed that besides “production issues” they had to wait for AR Rahman to compose the music and sort some internal issues.
This is not the first time that a film has released many years later. Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar that went on to become a massive hit in India and China was also released many years after it was made. However, looks like Farhan Akhtar may be amongst those very few actors whose debut movie will be releasing after a decade and many hits under his belt.
