Dulquer Salmaan bags second Bollywood film, to star opposite Sonam Kapoor in ‘The Zoya Factor’
Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor is all set to be paired opposite Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan in the upcoming film adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s 2008 best-selling novel, The Zoya Factor. The first poster and the release date of the film were shared on social media on Tuesday morning. The film has been scheduled to hit the screens on April 5, 2019.
The romcom, which will reportedly revolve around cricket will have Dulquer play Nikhil Khoda, the captain of the Indian Cricket Team while Sonam is playing Zoya Singh Solanki, a PR executive who was born at the moment when India lifted the 1983 World Cup.
The film will be helmed by Abhishek Sharma and is written by Neha Rakesh Sharma and Pradhuman Singh. The film will go on floors this August.
Talking about the film, director Abhishek Sharma of Tere Bin Laden fame told Mumbai Mirror, “Cricket woven into a rom-com and touching on superstition and luck, it’s an amazing book for a screen adaptation. The book has many layers, characters and tracks, so it took Neha Rakesh Sharma some time to pen a tight screenplay and Pradhuman Singh to write the dialogues. Now, we’ve gone back to Anuja who’s happy with the script to polish it and work on additional dialogues as nobody knows the characters better than her.”
Speaking on casting Dulquer in the role of Indian cricket team captain, the filmmaker revealed how he was convinced about getting Dulquer on board to play Nikhil Khoda after watching the trailer of superhit film OK Kanmani. “I knew immediately that this was the boy we were looking for. In the book, Nikhil is from the North but in our film, he hails from the South but speaks good Hindi,” he said.
This marks the second Bollywood project for Dulquer who is making his Bollywood debut with Ronnie Screwala’s ‘Karwan’, featuring Irrfan Khan and Mithila Palkar.
Meanwhile, Sonam is currently working on her upcoming film Veere Di Wedding co-starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Swara Bhasker. The film is backed by Rhea Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor and will hit theatres on 18th May 2018. Dulquer, on the other hand, will be seen in the upcoming Savitri biopic, Mahanati.
