India’s most treasured living legend is as healthy and fit as one can be, at the age of 89. Though numerous reports of her being ill often make it to the headlines, it comes as a relief for all her fans to know that she is in pink of her health. Sharing her thoughts on the same, Lataji says, “Intermittently I keep hearing these unfortunate reports of my ill health. They really disturb my well-wishers. But I am in good health and most happy to spend time with my siblings and their grandchildren. I couldn’t have asked for more.”
The newest addition to the Mangeshkar family is a pet dog. The adorable little canine has the whole family at its beck and call. “Finally there is someone who can claim to have Lata Mangeshkar dancing to his whims,” laughs Lataji.
The nightingale of India has recently started doing yoga in the right earnest. “It is truly a boon at my age. I find myself fitter and more flexible than I’ve been for a very long time. I go for long walks in the evening whenever I can. Life is beautiful.”
Even as she rejoices in her domestic bliss, Lataji is getting ready for her next album. She has many offers for collaborations. She says, "I haven't decided what I ’d do next. But it will be in the spiritual/devotional space. Film music no longer interests me. I do not follow today’s film songs.”
She is an inspiration in the true sense.
