This year has seen many strong performances from our lead actresses like Deepika Padukone (Padmaavat), Alia Bhatt (Raazi), Rani Mukerji (Hichki), Taapsee Pannu (Mulk) etc. These stellar performances will give the jury of various awards functions a tough time to decide whom to present the award with. But when it comes to actors, the only name that emerges prominently in our mind is Ranveer Singh. The actor kickstarted the year with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat in which he played the role of the cruel Sultan Alauddin Khilji. The movie was titled Padmaavat, but the major screen time was allocated to the character of Khilji and Ranveer went home with a solid chunk of the accolades. 2018 is coming to an end and soon the awards season will begin and it won’t be wrong to suggest that Ranveer better be keeping his speeches ready.
Ranveer played a negative role in the film, but the manner in which he portrayed the character was no less than the male lead. Shahid, who actually played the protagonist in the movie, was overshadowed by Ranveer’s villainous act. So even if Ranveer is not nominated in the Best Actor category (though we want him to be), Best Actor In a Negative Role award is hands down for him. When Ranveer previously collaborated with SLB in Bajirao Mastani, he actually ruled the awards season and looks like this time too won’t be an exception.

Ranveer began the year with Padmaavat and will be ending it with Simmba. The trailer gives us a hint that in Simmba too he will deliver a fantastic performance. We won’t be surprised if he gets nominated for Simmba too. There are other male actors who have given great performances this year, like Ranbir Kapoor (Sanju), Ayushmann Khurrana (Adhadhun) etc., but they have a slim chance before Ranveer. Let’s wait and watch.
