Gully Boy Box Office Collection: Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt starrer soars over Rs 18 crore
Gully Boy opened to stellar reviews when it released on February 14. The Zoya Akhtar directorial chose Valentine’s Day to hit the theatres, marking a departure from the tried and tested Friday openings that the film industry usually follows. It was also a welcome change to see a non-romantic film debuting on the most romantic day of the year. The film was well received by the audience and made huge collections on the first day itself.
According to Box Office India, the Ranveer Singh-Alia Bhatt starrer bagged Rs 18.5 crore. The film reportedly did well in some metros but garnered low numbers in a couple of localities. Most of the income arrived from Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore. For Ranveer, this is the second best opening after Simmba. As for Alia, Gully Boy turned out to be her best ever opening. The collection numbers are interesting since February 14 was not a holiday, nor was it a weekend. Perhaps the Valentine’s Day factor played a role in the film securing those numbers. From the looks of it, the makers may have made a great decision.
The second day (Friday) collections will tell us a lot more about how the weekend will shape up for the film. Both Alia and Ranveer have been involved with films that crossed Rs 100 crores. It will be worth waiting to find out if Gully Boy crosses the Rs 100-crore mark, especially since there are leaked versions of it already doing the rounds.
