Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s latest outing Gully Boy opened to rave reviews and is still raking in big numbers. The film has got the audience all fired up and fans can’t stop gushing about Ranveer-Alia’s terrific performance in it. The effect of the film, which introduced us to the Hip-Hop culture, is such that there will soon be a certified course titled Introduction to Hip Hop Studies and you can sign up for it at the Mumbai University (MU).
The course, which will start in June, is scheduled to be three months long and will cost around Rs 5,000. It will explore the political and racial aspects of the art form and will also discuss women in Hip-Hop. Students will be required to submit a thesis on select topics related to the art form and appear for a written exam to pass the course. Yatindra Ingle, an assistant professor at MU, who will also be the coordinator for the course, told Hindustan Times, “A committee was put together to make sure a subject like Hip-Hop can be taught. The approval has come through and we are hoping to attract many students.”
“The course will take students back to the days when Hip-Hop was first introduced in the streets of the US as a platform to speak out against oppression, violence, identity, culture and power,” he added.
So, no more crooning Apna Time Ayega. It’s time for a real Hip-Hop education!
