To many, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is the face of success. The 53-year-old, whose career really took off after his 2001 smash hit Lagaan, has given us some of the most remarkable movies in the industry. Most of which have gone on to become super hits in India and overseas as well. From Taare Zameen Par, 3 Idiots, PK, Secret Superstar to the 2017 blockbuster Dangal, the superstar has established himself as the most influential actor in the industry who is, of course, used to the big box office numbers! And now, the release of one of the most-anticipated films of the year Thugs Of Hindostan is just around the corner and with Aamir as the lead, the expectations are already sky-high.
However, both Thugs Of Hindostan and Aamir Khan have a lot to prove and a lot of films to beat this year. 2018 has been a rather good year for the box office. TOH will first have to win the race against Race 3 which collected 169 crore, and then try and conquer Padmaavat which raked in 200 crore. But beating those two films is only half the job done.
The highest grosser of the year remains Sanju at 341 crore. So the question then arises, will Aamir be able to scale the heights that Sanju scaled over its lifetime in the theatres and will he be able to dethrone the Ranbir Kapoor starrer.
The film will be unveiled a day after Diwali and that may prove to be a good decision given that a majority of the moviegoers in India stay away from cinemas during the festival days. Whether the change of release date, from November 7 to November 8, will take it to the scale Sanju managed to reach is still to be seen. "Looking at the elements - the cast and that it's made under the banner of YRF, there are possibilities for it to be the highest grosser. But ultimately what brings in the numbers is the script and the content. So if the script is not up to expectations, then I doubt," trade analyst Akshaye Rathi said.
TOH will see megastars Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan coming together on screen for the first time and that may help prop up the film’s numbers. But breaking Sanju’s record will still be a tall task. Read More
