The Queen of Bollywood, Kangana Ranaut’s latest outing Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi hit the silver screens on January 25. The film sees Kangana essaying the role of Rani Laxmibai and got off to a slow start, but did pick up business over the weekend. However, the film hasn't been able to do an impressive job at the box office. Going by the reports, the historical drama added Rs 15.70 crore more to its collection on Sunday. Let’s have a look at its total collection.
According to Box Office India, the film raked in Rs 17.75 crore nett on Saturday and Rs 14.75 crore nett on Sunday. The film witnessed a drop on Sunday which is definitely not a good sign. The film’s total collections now stands at Rs 40.25 crore, which is disappointing! The film had a dull start, being able to pull in only Rs 7.50 crore on its day 1. Considering that Manikarnika is made at a budget of approximately Rs 125 crore, audiences had huge expectations. Furthermore, it now has another big competition coming up this weekend, which is Sonam Kapoor starrer Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. Well then, it does seem tough! Nevertheless, Kangana has still broken her own record as the film has replaced Tanu Weds Manu Returns by garnering the highest first-weekend collection for a female-driven film.
The film, as the name suggests, chronicles the life of Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi and her struggle with ruthless British rule. It also stars Atul Kulkarni, Jisshu Sengupta, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Ankita Lokhande, among others in pivotal roles.
