Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi was undoubtedly one of the most awaited films of the year. The trailer of the film had impressed everyone, but unfortunately, the moviegoers didn’t make it to the theatres on day one and the movie took a lukewarm opening at the box office by collecting Rs 7.75 crore (according to Box Office India). But then the film showed a huge jump on its second day which was a Republic Day holiday and it collected Rs 17.75 crore. Then there was no looking back for the movie and it went on to so a stable business at the box office.
In its first week, the film collected Rs 56.56 crore as reported by BOI and now, after the second week, the total collection of the movie is approximately Rs 77.56 crore which is quite good for a woman-centric film. But the budget of the movie which is said to be around Rs 110 crore is the villain here. Though the makers have got a good chunk of the budget through the pre-release sales, it seems a bit difficult that Manikarnika will be a hit theatrically. But then, it will be interesting to see if it will reach the 100 crore mark at the box office or not.
One week after the release of Manikarnika, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga made it to the screens. Sonam Kapoor and Anil Kapoor starrer took a slow start but one expected it to pick up after the good reviews and positive word of mouth that came in. However, that didn’t happen. The movie is a flop at the box office. Now, this week there’s only one film releasing titled Amavas, a movie that people hardly know about. So, as EKLDTAL is out of the race and Amavas has no chances, Manikarnika will clearly be the first choice for the moviegoers this weekend. Even the screen count will not be affected, as we do not have any big film releasing. With this one wonders if Manikarnika will finally manage to enter the coveted 100 crore club.
Manikarnika in its second week collected Rs 21 crore (according to Box Office India) which is good. If it stays stable in the third week and collects equivalent to what it collected in its second week, then no one can stop the movie from reaching that mark. Next week releases Gully Boy and that would be a tough competition for the Kangana Ranaut starrer. So, Manikarnika has only this week to come out with some more decent numbers. All the best to the team Manikarnika!
