It seems as if Karisma Kapoor might soon be able to marry her rumoured beau of three years, businessman Sandeep Toshniwal. This is because Toshniwal’s seven years bitter battle for divorce is finally coming to fruition. His orthodontist wife and he have decided to mutually settle their divorce. Kapoor herself had divorced from her former husband, businessman Sunjay Kapur.
The divorce between Toshniwal, a Delhi businessman and wife Dr Ashrita has come after 14 years of marriage. He had filed for divorce in 2010.
The clauses of the settlements state that Toshniwal’s two daughters, aged 12 and 9, will get Rs 3 crore each. Ashrita will get Rs 2 crore and also the Delhi home that she presently is residing in. The children will be living with their mother.
Toshniwal’s divorce came after a series of bitterness, accusations and personal attacks.
It all began when Ashrita had approached the Bandra family court with her lawyer Manjula Rao and tried to restrain Toshniwal from selling their shared household in Delhi, which was jointly owned by them.
Consequently, Sandeep wanted a divorce from Ashrita by mutual consent and when she denied, he filed for divorce. Among other allegations, Sandeep had also called Ashrita a schizophrenic.
Ashrita had filed a counter-allegation, accusing him of adultery. His then girlfriend was asked to appear for the court proceedings.
The matter turned uglier as the two started an argument over child visitation rights. Represented by lawyer Taubon Irani, Toshniwal was cross-examined, but before Ashrita’s cross examination could be done with, they decided to visit a mediator this year. Ashrita appeared for cross-examination. Post the mediation, Toshniwal asked for some time to make arrangements of the finances.Their Delhi home was sold-off and both obtained 50 percent share. Sandeep is also asked to pay the remaining installments of the house.
