Kangana Ranaut starrer Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi released this Friday and though it received mostly positive reviews, the movie has failed to get a flying start at the box office. The movie is jointly directed by Kangana Ranaut and Krish. Rumours and speculations have been rife about what went wrong with the making of the film. It has been said that Krish shot the film in entirety but Kangana wasn't happy with the final cut and asked for patchwork to be done. Having already served his time as director for the film and being out of dates, Krish moved on to his next project in the south. With the film now without a director for the patchwork, Kangana is said to have taken over the role. However, the actress claimed that she has shot 60-70 percent of the film. From the day the teaser was launched to the day the film released, Krish was kept away from the promotions. But now, he has finally opened up about the whole controversy.
While talking to Spotboye, Krish revealed that Kangana reshot 20-25 percent in the first half and 10-15 percent in the second half. He said, “I think Kangana has done 20-25 per cent of the first half. I didn't shoot a song and I didn't shoot her entry scene. 10-15 per cent. In the second half, she has even re-shot some scenes which I had done in a different way. But it's okay now. The film is looking brilliant. I am happy that she didn't spoil it much.”
Talking about the scenes of other actors being cut, he said, “I don't know why so many characters got cut. The story would have otherwise been better. Also, why too much focus on Manikarnika's childhood? Atul Kulkarni teaches sword fighting to Kangana, we had shot some beautiful scenes. That entire thing was sidelined. Everybody's role was much bigger especially Prajakta's (Mali). They all have been blatantly reduced.”

He further revealed how his identity has been tampered. “The first poster which bore the date (August 15, 2018), had my name. Then came the teaser, which had my name but not as Krish which I am known as in the industry including in the credit titles of my previous films. I was given a new name- Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi - which I never use.”
Krish went to say that while Kangana was shooting for Mental Hai Kya, he completed the edit of the film and everyone else dubbed for the film except the actress. He added, “She returned, saw the film and said that she liked it. She, however, added that she had few small concerns. After few days, she said that iska jyaada hai, uska jyaada hai, this girl is overpowering, that girl is overpowering. Then she came up with yeh change karna hai, woh change karna hai. She also said that Kamal Jain (producer) hadn't liked the film.”
Kangana wanted Sonu Sood’s character to die in the interval. “She suddenly rose to say that Sonu's character should be killed at the interval point. This was completely against history. Sonu was playing an important antagonist, he had a beautiful arc in the story and we had shot with him beautifully for 35 days, Sadashiv (Sonu's character) would have died in the film but just little before Laxmibai's death,” Krish said.
When asked about Ankita Lokhande’s role being cut, Krish said, “No, in fact, Ankita's role was increased (by Kangana). Everything was hotch-potch. And I am saying all this not because I want to complain but just to say the truth.” Krish further revealed that Kangana told him Manikarnika look like a Bhojpuri film. The filmmaker said, “Kangana even told me that Zee Studios hadn't liked what I had made. It was looking like a Bhojpuri film. I laughed. People know my previous work. We argued but she wanted her own way. I just couldn't understand.”

Krish further stated that Kangana was “Very rude. She is rude all the time.” The Gabbar Is Back director stated that he spoke to Kangana about his name being distorted to which she replied, “You didn't support me in the Sonu Sood episode. Aapko abhi zaroorat hai toh aaye ho." In the credits of the movie, Kangana’s name comes first as the director and then Krish’s name appears. The filmmaker said, “I don't think how Kangana can sleep well by taking the first credit in direction when she does not deserve it.”
This is actually not the first time when we have heard a story of Kangana taking away the other crew members credit. It takes us back to 2017 when Kangana was credited ahead of writer Apurva Asrani in the poster of Hansal Mehta’s Simran.
