Mardaani 2: Get ready to watch Rani Mukerji as Shivani Shivaji Roy again
In 2014 released Rani Mukerji starrer Mardaani, the actress played the role of a feisty cop and what a performance she delivered. The Pradeep Sarkar directorial dealt with the issue of child trafficking and the film received a thumbs up from the critics as well as from the audiences. It was a hit at the box office too. After the movie hit the screens, there were reports of the sequel and finally after four years, the makers have officially announced Mardaani 2. The official Twitter handle of YRF tweeted about the second instalment of the film.
Confirming Mardaani 2, the actress said, “Mardaani is and will always be extremely close to my heart. Since its release, everyone has asked me time and again when I would be doing Mardaani 2 and I’m sure this announcement will come as a pleasant surprise to all of them. Gopi has written an extraordinary script and I can’t wait to start shooting this film soon.”
While the first instalment was directed by Pradeep Sarkar, Mardaani 2 will be helmed by Gopi Puthran who had written the script of Mardaani and had also co-directed it.
Tahir Raj Bhasin played the negative role in Mardaani and was lauded for his performance. When asked about the villain in Mardaani 2, the actress said, “Shivani will face a cold, merciless villain, who has no empathy, no fear of God and who is pure evil. The character has been written superbly and I’m excited to find out which actor will play the antagonist.” Mardaani 2 will start rolling in early 2019 and it is slated to release in the second half of the year.
Post her maternity break, Rani Mukerji made her big screen comeback this year with Hichki in which she played the role of a woman who suffers from tourette syndrome. Her performance was much appreciated and the movie turned out to be a super hit at the box office. It collected more than Rs 200 crore worldwide, turning out to be Rani’s biggest hit till date.
