Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer Gully Boy is creating solid pre-release buzz thanks to the trailer and the songs of the film. On Tuesday, the makers released the new track of the film titled Mere Gully Mein and the response the song is receiving is every filmmaker's dream. The song in question is a recreated version of a song by the same name. The reprised version of the track is sung by Divine and Naezy, two talented artists who were said to be the inspiration behind the film. The original song was produced by Sajeel Kapoor a.k.a. Sez On The Beat and the music producer took to social media on Tuesday to claim that he hasn't been paid for the recreation of the song.
In his post on Facebook, Kapoor wrote that he earlier had no idea about the song being recreated in the film and was appraised of it only a few days ago. He further adds that he wants the movie to be successful, saying it would give artists new opportunities. However, he has mentioned that the original label has not paid him for the song despite having a contract and a publishing split. He, however, did not mention the name of the label. We contacted the film’s team to get their version of the story but did not receive a reply until the publication of this article.
Gully Boy was initially conceived as rapper Naezy's (Naved Shaikh’s) story. But sometime last year, the rapper from Mumbai Sattar (70) enrolled himself into rehab for drug abuse. Sources say that this is when the makers of Gully Boy decided against calling it Naezy’s story and are now claiming that Gully Boy is the story of Mumbai street rappers. Whether that is true or not, we will know on February 14, 2019.
