Guneet Monga's Period. End Of Sentence. wins an Oscar in the category of Documentary Short Subject.
Guneet Monga, who has produced several films like Gangs of Wasseypur, The Lunchbox, Masaan and Zubaan, has made India proud at this year's Oscars. Her movie, Period. End Of Sentence. has won an Oscar in the category of Documentary Short Subject. The movie was competing with other films like Black Sheep, End Game, Lifeboat and A Night At The Garden. Period. End Of Sentence. is directed by award-winning Iranian-American filmmaker Rayka Zehtabchi. The movie deals with women in India fighting against the taboo of menstruation and also talks about the work of real-life Pad Man, Arunachalam Muruganathan.
After winning the award, Guneet Monga took to Twitter to ecstatically inform everyone that she has won the Oscars. In her tweet she has written, “WE WON!!! To every girl on this earth... know that you are a goddess... if heavens are listening... look MA we put @sikhya on the map.” Monga is said to be the game changer producer in Indian cinema as she has always backed films that are out of the box. Not many of her films have been commercially hit, but have always received critical acclaim and has toured many prestigious film festivals.
We congratulate Guneet Monga on this win and we hope that more filmmakers dare to back movies with different subjects.Read More
