As we come to December, one often looks back and thinks about the months that have gone by. In the context of Bollywood, one tries to reason and observe trends that rocked the industry, the films that left an impact, the new actors who entered the industry and left a mark and of course the existing talent that got recognition after a long time. And the last category is the one that warms our hearts the most. We often see that a good film is a sum of every body’s contribution. However, rarely do we acknowledge the smaller parts played by some very talented people. And this year we got to celebrate the likes of Vicky Kaushal, Pankaj Tripathi, Ayushmann Khurrana.
While Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan’s Thugs Of Hindostan failed and Salman Khan’s Race 3 did not excite audience, there were those like Rajkummar Rao who continued the winning streak that started in 2017. The actor’s film Stree was not just one of the biggest commercial successes this year, but it also earned rave reviews and lots of love from the movie goers. Shraddha Kapoor managed to taste success after having a bad stint at the ticket windows in her previous movies. One of the biggest highlights of Stree, however, was Pankaj Tripathi. The man has several gems under his belt – Newton, Gangs of Wasseypur, Masaan, Bareily Ki Barfi, Masaan – where Tripathi played small but memorable roles. However, with Stree, the actor experienced the success that he truly deserved. He was being interviewed by renowned entertainment journalists and was also invited to town halls. His real-life simplicity and on-screen magic are earning the actor a lot of love.
Another actor who is the star of 2018 is Vicky Kaushal. Those who missed experiencing this talent in Masaan would never be able to ignore the actor in Sanju. Even though Ranbir Kapoor transformed for his part in the film, it was Vicky who took all the accolades. Ranbir worked hard on being Sanjay Dutt, but Kaushal’s friendship and endearing portrayal of Kamlesh Kapasi was the one that audience and critics talked about much after the film was over. The actor had a great inning this year because apart from working in a Rajkummar Hirani movie, Vicky also had Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi alongside Alia Bhatt. And even though it was a small part, his earnest act wasn’t missed. And it was not just on silver screen even on digital Vicky’s both ventures – Lust Stories and Love Per Square Foot were recognised.
One name that is deserving to be in this list is Ayushmann Khurrana. The actor who won us over with his debut Vicky Donor. And even though he did have some movies that did not succeed, it wasn’t like the actor didn’t do well for himself. He had movies like Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Bareily Ki Barfi to his credit. However, this year has been truly a special one for Khurrana. He had two releases that were poles apart – Sriram Raghavan’s Andhadhun and Amit Sharma’s Badhai Ho. And despite Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao being the central characters, Ayushmann as Nakul Kaushik was loved too. The future certainly holds a lot of promise for the actor with his next Project Dream Girl getting fans excited even ahead of the film going on floors.
We bet you’d agree with us that these three actors won hearts with their work in 2018. If you feel there’s another talent that is deserving of being included in this list, do comment and tell us.
