Ever since his debut in the Indian cinema in 2010, Rajkummar has been lauded for his stellar performances in movies like Shaitan, Trapped, Kai Po Che! , Bareilly Ki Barfi, Behen Hogi Teri and Newton. For Rajkummar Rao, transformation for characters in his movies is not a new thing. Be it the lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi or an honest election officer hell-bent for a free and fair election, he has mastered the art of making and breaking himself as an actor. But, the actor plays the anti-hero for the first time in Omerta.
In a recent interview with Pune Mirror, Rajkummar Rao had said, “This has been one of the toughest characters to portray. It is not easy to play the anti-hero. Omertà required a lot of work. Everything about me had to change — my voice, my look, my body. I’m very curious to see how audiences respond to me as a terrorist.”
Hansal Mehta was the man to discover ‘Shahid’ in Rajkummar Rao. In the same report the director adds, “Audiences will be surprised to see Rajkummar’s antagonistic turn in Omertà. Here is a man you will and must loathe. For both Raj and me, this film and Omar’s character were a completely new territory — a journey into an evil mind. This is a very different Rajkummar, he is diabolical in this film.”
Omertà has been shot in real locations across London and India and reportedly exposes the real and present danger of Pakistan sponsored terrorism. The movie also deals with some of the recent terror attacks including the 9/11 World Trade Centre attacks, the Mumbai terror strike and the brutal beheading of American journalist Daniel Pearl.
Rajkummar Rao will be next seen with Kangana Ranaut in Mental Hai Kya. Speaking of the film, Rao recently said in a media interaction, “I am very happy with the kind of response we have got just by releasing first look of our film. I am collaborating with Kangana after Queen and I have started my career with Ekta so, I would like to give credit to her for my success in films. It’s a very quirky, crazy story which audiences haven’t seen earlier and that’s what I look for an actor to do a film. We will start the shoot of the film very soon and I am pretty sure that it will be one of its kind films.”Produced by Nahid Khan and presented by Swiss Entertainment, Omerta releases on April 20, 2018.
