Amidst all the controversies surrounding Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati, all other unique aspects of the movie has been overshadowed. Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji has garnered much interest in spite of having zero dialogues in the trailer. Recently, the actor posted a collage of Heath Ledger as Joker, Malcolm McDowell as Alex DeLarge from A Clock Work Orange and his look as Khilji.
Ranveer is playing the cruel invader and he definitely looks the part. However, Instagram users slammed the actor for comparing himself to two Hollywood legends.
"You're comparing yourself with McDowell and Heath Ledger You're not even 1% of them brother. Act like a Mature!."
”Nope not that level 👎”
“Bro. Heath Ledger is Legend & he makes Joker character Immortal. Pls don't compare with him.”
While disapproving comments began to pour in nine to the dozen, some came to Ranveer’s rescue, highlighting how the actor was just trying to reveal how evil his character in Padmavati is."Whats wrong with you guys... who the fuck is heath ledger... it was the character ‘joker’ that made him, and btw this image is not showing that he is comparing himself...he just wants to portray how evil his character his," one user commented on the picture.
Ranveer, while talking about his role, told a publication, "It was a very difficult character to play. I am a people pleaser, admittedly. I like to spread cheer and laughter. I like to keep the atmosphere light – even if it means making stupid jokes and acting silly and crass. But, when I became Alauddin Khilji for the movie, there’s no trace of that person. Some actors are that way, where the external starts to affect the internal. At some point during filming, everybody realized that at one point in the morning you’ll have Ranveer and the rest of the day will be Khilji. My whole energy changed. Which is good, because at least I know I’m doing an honest job in the film. But, yeah, I’m almost done now and I have to say what I told myself holds true to some extent. All the darkness has been lived out, it’s been addressed. It’s almost like therapy."
Notably, the collage that was posted by Ranveer was quite flawless. It is edited so very well as you can see the eyes of all three characters merge in perfect symmetry. While all three characters have different faces, the merger seems on point! Kudos to Ranveer for that! The magnum opus is slated to release on December 1, 2017.
