Villa del Balbianello. That’s the place we want to be at, this week. The magnificent villa in Italy is known for the picturesque view it offers of the famous Lake Como. One could sit around this historic location for hours and soak in the serenity of the lake. Well-manicured lawns, heavenly gardens, gorgeously groomed trees only add to the number of reasons why Villa del Balbianello is a sought-after tourist location. But we could hardly be bothered with tourism. We want to be there this week to witness the wedding of Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
Villa del Balbianello is the location for their big day and we’re looking for someone to book us a flight there. But what exactly is this place all about, what does offer and what makes it so special? We crawled the internet and got in touch with the villa management too! Read on.
Villa del Balbianello is easily Italy’s dreamiest villa, located on the tip of the peninsula of Dosso d'Avedo, on the Western shore of the South West branch of the lake. The villa is especially known for its beautiful terrace garden. It is a highly sought after venue and we’re not just talking of wedding and events. Some of Hollywood’s biggest productions (including James Bond's Casino Royale and Star War: Episode II Attack of the Clones) have picked this villa to shoot a few iconic scenes. The stunning Italian structure is attractive beyond words. Picture perfect actually!
And it's not just the view, but the venue also boasts of an elaborate history, spread over a few centuries. Angelo Maria Durini, an Italian Cardinal purchased the villa in 1785. Prior to that, it used to be a Franciscan monastery. In 1787, he turned the monastery into a villa for a pleasant stay during the summers. After Durini's demise, his nephew Luiggi Porro Lembertenghi inherited the villa. During this time, it became quite a regular destination for members of Italy's secret revolutionary societies. Subsequently, Lembertenghi sold it to his friend Giuseppe Arconati Visconti. In 1919, it was sold to American businessman Butler Ames and in 1974, Italian mountaineer and explorer Guido Monzio bought it from the heirs of Ames and recreated the interiors extensively, installing impressive pieces of artefacts, antiques and furniture. In 1988, Monzio died, leaving the villa to Italy's national trust Fondo Ambiente Italiano. The villa is now a museum and remains one of the most visited places among all properties that belong to FAI. In 2016, FAI undertook a €413,000 project to enhance the villa's security, commutation and presentation.
Given its location and demand on the global tourism itinerary, one would assume the Villa offers its guests a little more than just pretty flora. The majestic backdrop is set for high profile weddings that take place and you’re wondering how much it costs to host a wedding here, we did the math for you. It could cost you up to €90 (around 7365 INR) per guest depending on the day of the week, the duration of the ceremony and the total number of guests coming in. Assuming that the ceremony will be attended by around 40 people, Deepika and Ranveer are likely to spend approx Rs 3 lakh just on the guests' entry into the venue!
No outside caterers are allowed to serve inside the museum and it is compulsory to opt for the service providers authorised by the museum authority. You can choose from a range of caterers and pick your preference of food and beverages.
Interestingly, the venue has no provision for guests to stay overnight. Ceremonies can last up to 2-3 hours and dinners, up to 6 hours. Depending on which area of the museum you chose, it can host from 10 to 150 people. We hear Deepika and Ranveer have kept their guest list close and personal. 40 invitees to be precise.
Let us also tell you that the museum is usually shut for weddings from March to November. When we called the villa, we were told that it is already shut for tourists for this season and will only reopen in March 2019. The authority, however, made an exception for Deepika and Ranveer.
The couple will be man and wife in a couple of hours from now. The bride, the groom and their gang are already livin’ it up in Italy and we can’t wait for those gorgeous pictures of the couple and of course their beautiful location to drop on social media!Read More
