After Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, the much awaited first look of Sultan Alauddin Khilji featuring Ranveer Singh from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ was finally revealed today. Besides the long hair and a scar, it is the light kohl-heavy eyes that makes him look intense. The actor, who has also played Bajirao in Bajirao Mastani, looks menacing and deadly in the poster.
Raveer, who made his debut in 2010 opposite the already established Anushka Sharma in ‘Band Baaja Baraat’, was an instant success. A romantic comedy in which Ranveer played the role of a small-town boy striving to make it big in the capital city. 'Bread pakore ki kasam’ neither is he from a small town nor from Delhi but he slipped right into the role of a ‘desi munda’. An instant favourite of the critics, his energy was infectious and was called the next Govinda.
Ranveer is known to easily fit into the demands of the character across roles that he has bagged. From 'Ladies vs Ricky Bahl' opposite Anushka Sharma, where he plays a con-man to emotionally disturbed man in ‘Lootera’. Ranveer has gone on to cement his position as a versatile actor in the industry.
This display of dramatic range expanded further with another release in the same year of ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela’ opposite Deepika Padukone. Just like the dialogue from the film, ‘Meri mardangi ke bare mein aap gaon ki kisi bhi ladki se pooch sakte ho... report achchi milegi,’ Ranveer proved to be a rare gem of consistent blockbusters.
However, 2014 was a completely forgettable year for Ranveer Singh with the release of ‘Gunday’ and ‘Kill Dill’. He came back with the comedic-drama ‘Dil Dhadakne do’ in 2015 portraying the role of a young son in a dysfunctional rich family but he played it safe with an ensemble cast.
“Cheeteh ki chaal, baaz ki nazar aur Bajirao ki talvar par sandeh nahi karte... kabhi bhi maat de sakti hai,” Ranveer’s performance in ‘Bajirao Maastani’ was undoubtedly his best. He reportedly confined himself and prepped for the role of Peshwa Bajirao before joining the sets. Ranveer is known to prepare extensively for his role. Prior to the making of Bajirao mastani, Ranveer is known to have locked himself in his apartment to get into the character. Reports suggest that he underwent the same procedure to play Alauddin Khilji in ‘Padmavati’.Ranveer’s first look from ‘Padmavati’ has made us impatient to see him as an antagonist for the first time. The movie is set to release on December 1.
